Lyric Painting Project
The song I expressed was Colors by Bethel from their album Be Enthroned. The way I expressed the song through visual imagery was by washes of paint, but also through incorporating a depiction of the emotion and ideas in the song. Giving the lyrics a visual by playing with brightness, colors, and using a metaphor of sort. In the actual painting I have clouds surrounding this peaceful vortex of colors and light and in the middle is a dark silhouette of someone. These colors are being poured into this person. Overall, this piece is meant to represent a sense of peace, joy, love, and brightness. A lot of it is up to the viewer what it means. When I look at it, for example, I see myself. At the start of this project I started with random colors and no real pattern. The first layer looked cool but I had a new idea. As my idea changed and evolved and I added different layers it eventually took its final form. Every time a new idea came to me I added a new layer. These layers clarified ideas or brought new ones. At the start it was mesh of colors and now it has a form and idea it holds behind it. This piece is meant to evoke emotions of joy, perhaps hope and peace. In the end it all depends on the observer and how it may connect with them, if at all.
